buying a house process FAQ
I'm moving to chicago from the UK and want to understand the the house buying process?

Is the buying process the same? E.g. Using an estate agent / property website to view properties?
Is the mortgage application process teh same? Do they have the same products - fixed, tracker, variable? Having a deposit? 5, 10, 15% deposit?
The best thing to do is get a real estate agent to help you. They are called "a buyers agent" They cost you nothing and they will walk you through the process, help you find a house, and protect your interest during negotiates.

you have to find a bank to loan you the money and they will tell you what their closing costs are and what the required DP is. that's how people select a loan, depending on the bank's fees and requirements.

I work for a California MLS. No, there is no law binding you to a particular agent. It is a felony for your agent to tell you differently. It is extremely common for buyers and sellers to get frustrated with their agent mid-process and switch. In
