Please explain to me, in simple terms, the following statement:
"Second, fair value accounting forces institutions to value their long-term assets at short-term prices, discouraging banks from performing one of their fundamental functions:
If bank says it will be holding a loan until maturity, the current accounting rule says the bank can assume the value of that asset at book value. If the bank is intending to sell this loan and hence not going to hold till maturity, it will have to assume
