To put it in layman terms, what kinda business can someone start and operate alone? Here is the definition of sole proprietorship:
A sole proprietorship is a business owned by one person, sometimes called a sole trader.
What do you want to do? You can do a lot of things yourself. I would love to give you some ideas, but it's hard when I don't know anything about your skill/interests, whatever. I will say, though, that If you're in the US, SCORE is a great resource.

A sole proprietorship is not by definition a corporation. A partnership would be a third type of business entity.
